The Hoover Lab aims to elucidate the mechanisms of transition metal catalyzed organic transformations in order to understand and improve upon reactions relevant to current societal challenges, in particular those related to health, energy, and the environment.
Our group members conduct high-quality, thoughtful, and careful research while maintaining professional ethical standards. We value honesty, fairness, open-mindedness, collaboration, and mentorship between group members and fellow researchers. We train, coach and support undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral researchers to become successful and socially responsible future scientists in academia, industry and government.
Innovation and creativity thrive in a diverse and inclusive environment! We recognize that a group built from a variety of backgrounds will result in a more resilient, talented, and innovative team. The Hoover Group attributes many of our successes to the mix of diverse, motivated, resourceful, and talented researchers, past and present, that we have had the honor to work with and we welcome you, regardless of your race, religion, ethnicity, age, socioeconomics, gender, sexual orientation, ideology, and/or background.
We acknowledge the existing chasm in opportunities (unequal access to research, professional development, visibility, and recognition) faced by many individuals and groups in the scientific community. We recognize our privileged position and embrace the responsibility to enable positive change in learning and discovery, open communication, growth, mentorship, and respect.
We are committed to fostering an environment of:
- Learning and Discovery.
We value all opportunities to share and harness our cultural differences, talents and experiences to nurture intellectual fulfillment.
- Open Communication.
We believe a dialog of ideas from open-minded and passionate individuals will provide intellectual opportunities and a dynamic and engaging research environment.
- Growth.
We will actively seek out opportunities to support growth (in ourselves, our group, our department and our community) to improve our understanding of the challenges that each of us face.
- Mentorship.
We will develop thoughtful mentoring relationships within the group in an effort to cultivate and maintain an inclusive and open environment.
- Respect.
We will treat everyone we encounter with respect, kindness and acceptance. We will be resilient to inequality, injustice, and bigotry.
